X Medianoche is an artist and sound designer whose work dances with the viscous relationship between spirituality, technology, and sensation. They design and curate sound environments for screen, performance, visual arts & events grounded in deep body listening. X holds an MFA in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where they developed a love for sound art, sound design, and multichannel spatial audio installation. The heart of their practice is space and what to do with it, how space is or isn’t inhabited, perceived, and transformed by sound & image. Their work is constantly gazing at the relationships formed between sound, space & movement.
Working with sound, moving image, sub-bass, drones, organ tones, field recordings, and multichannel spatial audio, X sculpts experiential environments where spatial arrangement guides presence. The conceptual choreography of their work seeks to draw maps towards the doorway between the material and the metaphysical, offering listeners an opportunity to be led by subtle shifts in sensation and to converse with the unseen through fully embodied attention. They have collaborated on sound design projects with Brontez Purnell and Elias Foerster at SutroFM, Anamika Singh at the Chazen Museum of Art, OYSTERKNIFE at Grace Cathedral and Paz G at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. X’s work has been presented at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Deering Estate, Art Lit Lab, Common Sage Arts, Backspace Gallery, SutroFM, Dublab, Chazen Museum of Art, EverAfters, and Temescal Art Center. Their art is made possible by god, spirit guides, angels, love, friends, teachers, time travel, strangers, music, mistakes, saturn, sound healing, synchronicities, pdfs, and probably you.
